Jesmonite is a composite material made from gypsum (a naturally occurring mineral) and a water-based acrylic resin. Originally developed in the UK as part of an experiment with concrete technology, it was primarily used in construction for creating durable, high-quality surface materials.

In recent years, however, Jesmonite has gained popularity beyond construction, especially among artists, sustainable brands, and home crafters. Its rise is largely due to its reputation as a safe, eco-friendly, and easy-to-use alternative to materials like fibreglass, polyester, plaster, concrete, and traditional resin.

Jesmonite is incredibly versatile, making it suitable for a wide range of applications. Since its creation in the 1980s, its uses have continuously evolved.

While it was originally designed for construction—used for casting and laminating buildings—it later found a home in the art world, where sculptors embraced its flexibility. Today, as more consumers prioritize sustainability, Jesmonite has become a popular choice for creating eco-friendly home décor, including coasters, trays, bowls, and statement centerpieces.
