Why I Work with Jesmonite (And Why You’ll Want to Touch It)

Jesmonite has become a core material in my practice — not because it’s trendy, but because it allows me to create sculptural pieces that feel both modern and rooted. It’s strong, versatile, and has a tactile, stone-like quality that gives each object weight and presence.

It’s tactile. Solid. Matte. When you hold a piece, you notice the texture. The way it sits in your hand. The quiet weight of it.

Every bowl, tray, or sculptural object I make is poured by hand in small batches. I carve, inlay, or polish each one to bring out the surface. Some are smooth, some raw, some detailed with veins and marbling. No two are the same.

Jesmonite feels more like stone than resin or clay, but it’s lighter and more forgiving. It sets quickly and holds detail beautifully — every line, edge, or imperfection becomes part of the piece.

I use it because I like objects that invite you to touch them. That live in your space without shouting for attention. That feel made — not manufactured.
